Anna Guthrie
ANNA GUTHRIE
Guthrie is a Queensland-based contemporary artist working across ceramics, textiles and printmaking. For more than two decades she has developed a materially driven practice grounded in making, walking and sustained observation. Her work explores relationships between people, place and memory through embodied engagement with materials, creating quietly resolved objects and installations that invite reflection and close attention.
Supported by postgraduate study in visual art, Guthrie has developed a practice-led approach in which making and material experimentation function as both creative practice and critical enquiry. Her work is underpinned by sustained research, reflective documentation and technical refinement, bringing together conceptual rigour with a deep commitment to craftsmanship.
Guthrie has exhibited widely throughout Queensland and has been a finalist in the North Queensland Ceramic Award (2022, 2026), Moreton Bay Art Prize (2022, 2023, 2024), Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence (2023) and the Fairholme Open Art Prize (2024). She was awarded Highly Commended in the Queensland Regional Art Awards – Emerging Artist Award (2023) and was an Invited Artist in the Queensland Regional Art Awards (2025). Alongside her exhibition practice, she undertakes independent studio research and international fieldwork investigating contemporary ceramic practice, material processes and glaze development.

Year-long studio-based investigation into atmospheric low-fire glazes, terra sigillata, slips, oxide washes, colour development and surface methodologies through systematic glaze testing, kiln experimentation and reflective studio practice.
