Anna Guthrie – Professional Biography

Anna Guthrie is a professional ceramic and mixed media artist based in Moreton Bay, Queensland. Guthrie holds a Bachelor of Creative Industries majoring in Journalism and Art History from Queensland University of Technology and an Honours degree in Creative Arts from James Cook University. She is currently undertaking a Doctor of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University. Her practice operates at the intersection of ceramics, drawing, inscription and embodied material enquiry.

Guthrie has exhibited extensively throughout Queensland, and her work has been recognised in significant art prizes including the Moreton Bay Art Prize, the North Queensland Ceramic Award, the Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence, and the Queensland Regional Art Awards, where she received a Highly Commended award from Dr. Fiona Foley and Dr. Jonathan McBurnie. Her work has toured Queensland through Flying Arts exhibitions.

In 2025, Guthrie was commissioned by Moreton Bay City Council to produce a 100 square metre public mural for the Deception Bay Library. The commission extended a four-year ceramic research project mapping the environmental and cultural histories of Deception Bay through walking, material exploration and sculptural practice.

Anna Guthrie’s professional practice includes international research and residency engagement. She has undertaken an artist residency in New Zealand, travelled to China for ceramics research, and is currently developing a studio residency in Japan scheduled for late 2026, where she will engage directly with established ceramic studios to expand her material and cultural research.

Guthrie maintains a fully equipped professional studio including two kilns, three pottery wheels, slab roller, extruder, etching press, screen printing facilities, archival Giclée printing capabilities, and advanced digital drawing and illustration technologies. She works across analogue and digital processes, integrating inscription, print and clay within a contemporary ceramic framework.

She has delivered numerous workshops and mentoring programs through TAFE Queensland in partnership with Flying Arts, Moreton Bay Regional Gallery, Education Queensland, and regional arts organisations. Her studio regularly supports peer artists through shared access, collaborative exchange, and professional development dialogue.

Guthrie’s mentoring practice draws on extensive studio experience, public commission delivery, exhibition history, and sustained research in contemporary ceramic methodology.
